Historic Quarters – Development and Vitality

The 24th Congress on the Protection of Urban Historic Monuments was held in Neuruppin on 30 August 2016. The organiser was Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety. Gunther Adler, a state secretary at the Ministry, gave the opening speech, on the topic: “Future challenges for historic cities in times of growth or shrinkage”.

Kathrin Schneider, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Planning for the State of Brandenburg and Gunther Adler, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety unveiled a plaque commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Programme for the Protection of Urban Historic Monuments in Neuruppin.

25 years after the Programme for the Protection of Urban Historic Monuments was launched, historic urban quarters in Germany remain a focus in the preservation of sites of historic interest. After all, growth and shrinkage influence cities’ prospects for development. Historic urban quarters are affected most by this – functionally and in terms of (urban) development.

During the festivities on the evening of the Congress, attendees looked back on the past 25 years of the Programme, which began with the Neuruppin Declaration.

The aim of the Congress was to address the future challenges faced in the development of historic urban quarters early on, so appropriate instruments and strategies can be put in place to develop them into lively places, fit for the future.

Event Consult GmbH was responsible for the following areas: accreditation and attendee management, organisation of the Congress (30 August 2016 in Neuruppin), workshops on the topic (31 August 2016 in Berlin, Potsdam and Rheinsberg), graphics and print products, equipment, technical support, hostess service, catering and shuttle bus service.
