Careers in mobility – advice for school-leavers
Hands-on mobility
The German Government’s Open Day took place in Berlin on 23 and 24 August 2025. The Ministry of Transport was once again part of the action. On the stage in the Ministerial Garden, for example, the spotlight was on initial career steps for school-leavers and bold new career pathways within the Ministry.
Celebrity visitors
Captain Bluebear and Hein Blöd from the German children’s TV show “The Show with the Mouse” couldn’t resist the chance to appear before the cameras at the Ministry of Transport’s 2025 Open Day. They provided a welcome introduction to the topic of mobility for young and old alike.
The exciting world of work
The work environment at the Ministry was represented by numerous institutions, including the Federal Highway Research Institute, the Federal Institute of Hydrology, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, and the German Weather Service. This allowed the young people to experience various occupations at first hand.
From change in perspektive to rollover simulator
The public were particularly impressed by the simulators, which allowed them to experience mobility from different vantage points – from the seat of a motorcycle or bicycle to the helm of a ship on waterways and canals.
Apart from the many careers-focused activities, there were other exciting attractions to discover, e.g.:
- understanding freak weather events
- untangling maritime knots
- finding out more about your rights as a passenger
- and naturally, testing your knowledge about the driver’s licence and your driving ability.
This approach allowed visitors of all ages to enjoy unusual mobility experiences.
